Make Room for Zontar
was a cult radio hit from the first day it was broadcast, May 1, 1933. Heard every Friday on the Delmar Network and repeated endlessly on Long Wave Interocitor channels 47.c3 and 51.x7 (both red and blue). Most people missed the subtle subtext and thought it just another sitcom with a strange premise. However, it is said that some found that it opened up undreamed new worlds for them.
In 1955 Jack Webb brought his brand of Neo-Realist Surrealism to the long-running show. Based on scripts by Chester Gould several long-time characters met strange and gruesome deaths. Even with the format change the show never made the leap to Television. The last show, Friday, November 22, 1963, at 1:30 EST, was also the last broadcast for the Delmar Network. Many people agree that this was a day the world changed.
